The four by four method involves four things the rider teaches the horse (go forward, stop, turn right and turn left), and four means by which the rider communicates with the horse (hands, seat, legs and eyes). In the first video, the four by four approach is used to work a novice and a more experienced horse including different gaits, introducing the horses to jumps, maintaining the rhythm of the gait and jumping cross-country fences. Features tips for various jumps including ditches corner fences, logs, narrow fences, zig zag fences, banks and water jumps. in the second video Andrew and Bettina Overesch instruct two riders in eventing skills. They cover introducing ditches, related distances, jumping narrow fences, introducing the horses to water and jumping various jumps with a young horse.
