* 00:01-23:59 FEATURED EVENT: RIDE IN RED - AHS Awareness Day (SA)
If you feel that raising awareness of AHS is something you can support, please do invite all your horse-loving friends - not just in South Africa - to join the event and RIDE IN RED on Saturday too! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JOIN us - from where ever you are - on the 5th of May to help raise awareness of AFRICAN HORSE SICKNESS! AFRICAN HORSE SICKNESS “AHS” is a deadly virus horses in South Africa contract. The vaccine is not 100% effective and once horses get the disease, there is no cure. Horses need to fight off the virus themselves. Over 1000 horses have died between 2011 and 2012 in South Africa. African horse sickness (AHS) is an infectious but non-contagious, insect-borne viral disease affecting all species of equids. It is transmitted in the field by at least two species of Culicoides. The following Endurance official rides are taking place on the 5th of May, in South Africa. ERASA has agreed to our request to ask all endurance riders to ride in RED on the 5th of May in South Africa. We would like to invite guests as Day Riders to the events, join us, RIDE IN RED, and come and experience the fantastic world of Endurance Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape Louwna, North West Province Moorreesburg, Western Cape Thaba, Onderstepoort, Gauteng Underberg, Kwazulu-Natal Our appeal is to all horse owners and horse riders, ALL AROUND THE GLOBE, please join us and if you are competing , or just riding for fun, either wear red or place a red ribbon in your horse's mane. AHS is contained to the borders of South Africa and Namibia currently, but midge borne diseases are crossing boundaries and AHS could become a very real threat across the globe. Help us to find a solution and ensure all who have horses know what this disease brings with it.
