The Disease Control Africa developed inactivated AHA vaccine is available. Disease Control Africa and Letaba Veterinary Practise have been doing research and development in this field aince 2008 and have developed a nucleotide immune stimulant technology whereby inactivated virulent viruses can be used to produce safe and effective viral vaccines in a short period of time. Commercial vaccine strains were inactivated, mixed with immune stimulant and used as an experimental vaccine to test the safety and efficacy of the vaccine in several field trials during the 2008/2009, 2009/10 and 2010/11 African Horse Sickness seasons in the Tzaneen are in Limpopo.
